July 2011 Update

Happy Summer! With the coming of summer, comes yet another new school year for the Arizona Chapter of The Delta Chi Fraternity. This past year has been quite unique from both a personal and fraternal challenges. This summer and fall brings us more changes and the chance to overcome the obstacles in our way and succeed going forward.

As you are all most quite likely aware, this fall the chapter had another allegation of hazing involving associate members and inappropriate behavior. The University, the House Corporation and Alumni Board and the International Fraternity have a zero tolerance for hazing. This policy resulted in a membership review and later a supplemental membership review. In addition we took 19 men, some current and many future leaders from the chapter to Mount Lemon for a Leadership and planning retreat. The outcome was fantastic and serves for the base of chapter operations for the fall and future.

In our membership reviews the entire membership roster was personally interviewed by a staff member from the International Fraternity. Individualized interviews were held with current, graduating and all associate members (pledges) interviewed. This resulted in a number of people being dropped from our membership roster and necessitated major changes going forward. Some left without disagreement, and for others we were forced to secure restraining orders against some disassociated members. The men we have left are dedicated individuals with a shared focus and vision of once again creating a positive fraternal experience, free from hazing and inappropriate behavior. Our remaining officers and members are all on board, and looking forward to a successful school year.

With these new changes, we are currently returning for the fall with a very strong, motivated and dedicated membership and a cohesive executive board who are looking forward to overcoming the challenges put in place by the University regulations and the chance to prove once and for all that things have changed. Along with the internal changes, the House Corporation has also made some major staffing changes.
